Why losing caffeine is good for mental health!
Many years ago, I learnt I was intolerant to coffee so had to abstain as a result, not one drop of coffee have I had for over twenty years. It wasn’t until more recent years that I discovered that caffeinated drinks made my anxiety go through the roof quite literally.
It was whilst I was attending a Mental Health First Aider course, I was informed that caffeine aggravated symptoms of anxiety and panic disorder. With this knowledge I was able to pinpoint that whilst I was off the coffee, I was still drinking tea and soft drinks which contained caffeine and it was this that recently had tipped my mental health over the edge again.
There is much research around that quantifies this fact and that caffeine is certainly not good for you and certainly not when taken in high quantities.
If you are someone that can’t operate in the morning without a cup of coffee, it may be worth understanding that it is possibly not actually the coffee but the caffeine that is giving you the kick start. If this isn’t your only coffee of the day, then again it may be the caffeine that is keeping you awake at night with chasing thoughts.

NB. If you decide to come off the caffeine drinks do it slowly, get EXPERT advice if needed as withdrawal symptoms can occur. The above is my experience only so do your research on all aspects noted.
